I choose art books on the basis of their volume rather than their content. I bought an art book, recently, on the principle that it had 4 posters in a white paper envelope glued to the back page. With its double-sided pictures in low cost packaging, this book was obviously a bargain. The thing is, I need lots of pictures because I want to see the possibilities. I want to explore the possible lines that can exist and the different ways they can be combined. This month I have been using line drawing to represent some faces I find engaging. My main aim was to maintain the likeness while the expression changes. My secondary aim was to be as simple as possible with the lines I used.
-- The book with the envelope and posters was 'The Complete Etchings of Rembrandt'.
